How to make a photo under 20, 50 or 100 KB for online forms

Kitwise guide · updated

“File size must be less than 50 KB” and “photo must be 200 × 230 pixels” are the two rules that stop most online applications. Here is how to meet both without losing a clear face.

Free tools for this

  1. Read the advertisement or portal help for the exact rules: file type (JPG), size in KB, and width and height in pixels.
  2. Take the photo against a plain light wall, face the camera, good light from the front.
  3. If pixel sizes are given, use the Photo & Signature Resizer, which crops and sizes the picture for the form.
  4. If only a KB limit is given, use Compress Image to KB and choose the size (for example 50 KB).
  5. Check the result: the face should be sharp and the file should open on your phone.

Signatures

Sign with a black or dark blue pen on white paper, photograph it straight from above in daylight, then crop and resize it the same way. A clean white background compresses much better.

Tip: Very small limits like 20 KB work best with a smaller picture (for example 300 pixels wide) rather than very low JPG quality.

These tools run in your browser, so your photo and signature are not uploaded anywhere except the portal you send them to.

Questions

Why does the portal reject my photo even under the size?

Usually the width and height in pixels or the file type (JPG) is wrong.

Can I do this on a phone?

Yes, in Chrome or Safari.
