About the Islamic Inheritance Calculator (Wirasat, Hanafi)

See the share of each heir under Islamic law as followed in Pakistan (Hanafi fiqh): husband or wives, sons, daughters, son’s children, father, mother, grandparents, full brothers and sisters, and half brothers and sisters from the mother. Enter how many of each relative are alive, and optionally the value of the estate after debts, funeral costs and the will.

The calculator applies the fixed shares from the Quran, gives the rest to the residuary heirs (for example sons and daughters in the ratio 2:1), and applies ‘awl when the fixed shares add up to more than the whole and radd when something is left over. Shares are shown as fractions, percentages and amounts.

It covers the common family situations. For unusual cases (missing persons, unborn children, distant relatives) and before going to court or the patwari, ask a mufti or a lawyer.

What does a wife get?

One eighth (1/8) if the deceased had children, one quarter (1/4) if not. Several wives share that portion equally.

Why does a son get twice a daughter’s share?

That is the Quranic rule for children as residuary heirs (Surah An-Nisa 4:11).

Is this a legal fatwa?

No. It is a calculator for common cases; confirm with a scholar or lawyer.
