How to type Urdu without installing anything
You do not need to install an Urdu keyboard or InPage to write Urdu. These browser tools work on any computer or phone and keep your text on your device.
Free tools for this
- Urdu Typing Pad (phonetic keyboard)Type in Urdu with an English keyboard: press the key that sounds like the letter (b = ب, p = پ, T = ٹ). No software to install. Copy the text into WhatsApp, Word or Facebook. Saved on your device.
- Roman Urdu to Urdu ConverterType Urdu in English letters (Roman Urdu) and get it in Urdu script, for WhatsApp, posts and documents. Common words are spelled the standard way.
- Voice Typing (speak to type, Urdu & English)Speak and see your words typed: Urdu, English, Hindi, Arabic and more. Then copy the text. Uses the speech service built into Chrome and Edge (audio goes to Google or Microsoft for recognition, not to us).
- Image to Text (OCR) – English, Urdu & moreCopy the text out of a photo, screenshot or scanned page: English, Urdu, Arabic, Hindi and more. The text recognition runs in your browser; your picture is not uploaded.
- InPage to Unicode Converter (Urdu, beta)Get the Urdu text out of an old InPage file (.inp) as normal Unicode Urdu that works in Word, WhatsApp, Google Docs and websites. Or paste InPage text. Runs on your device; nothing is uploaded.
- Urdu Post Maker (Urdu text to image)Turn Urdu poetry, quotes or announcements into a clean image for WhatsApp status, Facebook and Instagram, in Nastaliq or Naskh.
- Phonetic Urdu keyboard: press the English key that sounds like the letter (b = ب, p = پ, capital T = ٹ). Best for writing new text.
- Roman Urdu to Urdu: type “aap kaise hain” and get آپ کیسے ہیں. Best if you already chat in Roman Urdu.
- Voice typing: speak Urdu in Chrome or Edge and the words appear. Best for long messages; fix small mistakes after.
- Image to text (OCR): copy Urdu text from a photo or scanned page instead of retyping it.
- InPage to Unicode: get the text out of old InPage files so it works in Word and WhatsApp.
Tip: For posts on Facebook or WhatsApp status, write the text, then use Urdu Post Maker to turn it into a picture with a Nastaliq font.
Unicode Urdu works everywhere: Word, Google Docs, WhatsApp, websites and search. InPage text does not, which is why old files need converting.
