Watch: how to use the Magic Eraser (26 seconds)
A real recording of the tool, no sound โ the steps are written on the video and below.
How it works
The Magic Eraser looks at the area you paint and fills it with texture taken from around it โ sky, wall, grass, fabric, skin โ using a content-aware fill that runs on your own device. It works best on small and medium things against a background with texture.
For more control, the Select panel has brush, lasso, box, oval and magic-wand selections; with a selection you can erase, blur, brighten, darken, turn black & white, fill with a colour, make it transparent or keep only the selection.
How to use the Magic Eraser, step by step
- Open your photo.
- In Magic eraser, set the brush size and paint over what should go (a little beyond its edges).
- Press Erase it.
- Not perfect? Undo, or paint the leftovers and erase again.
- Download JPG or PNG.
Tips
- Erase big things in two or three parts.
- Paint slightly beyond the object, including its shadow.
- Busy, repeating backgrounds (grass, sand, walls) give the most natural results.
Questions
Is it like Photoshop's content-aware fill?
It works on the same idea: the gap is filled with patches from the photo itself. It runs in your browser, so very large areas take longer and may need a second pass.
Is my photo uploaded?
No.
Can I remove a watermark?
Only remove marks from photos you own or have the right to edit.
