About the AI Translator (on your device)

Translate text between more than 40 languages with the translation AI built into Google Chrome. The translation happens on your computer, so private messages and documents are not sent to a translation service, and it keeps working offline after the first use.

Leave “Detect the language” on to let Chrome recognise the source language. In other browsers, or for a language pair Chrome does not have, the tool opens Google Translate with your text filled in.

How to use it

  1. Add your inputType or paste your input. Many tools already show an example you can change.
  2. Press Run toolThe result appears right below the button.
  3. Copy or downloadUse Copy output, or the Download button for files.

In Chrome on a computer, the AI runs on your own device and nothing is sent anywhere. In other browsers you can open the prompt in ChatGPT or Claude with one click.

For everyday text it is close. For legal or medical documents, ask a professional translator.

Does it work on a phone?

Chrome's built-in translator is for computers. On a phone, the tool opens Google Translate instead.
